About the web-site

This web-site has been designed according to the order by Klaipeda City Municipality on the basis of PHARE financed project “Construction of GIS to SME’s (small and medium enterprises) of the Baltic Sea Region at Klaipeda”.

The Project aim was to design an information system, which would contain and store detailed information about cultural enterprises in Klaipeda City and cultural events in general. Now Klaipeda City Municipality, cultural enterprises and organisations, art groups will be able to introduce themselves to the public Lithuanian society as well as society within the Baltic Sea Region including advertising, invitations to events organised, introduce both cultural and historical City landmarks. At this web-site the visitors will find links to other web-sites of the Baltic Sea Region, which store similar information (Project partner web-sites shall also contain a link to Klaipeda web-page).

Information system on cultural enterprises (CE) is a compound part of Klaipeda City GIS system (geographical information system). It contains data about cultural enterprises and organisations of the City, art groups, famous art people, publications, planned events, conference halls, etc. In addition, information about City land marks is stored here as well. Every described object/feature can be pointed out on a map too.

All the cultural enterprises have to do is register at the web-site, enter the data into the database and point out the location site or objects of interest, event sites on a map. Besides, you can also put your announcement here and subscribe to the newsletter.

All data, including maps are formed and published in real time directly from City GIS server. The registered enterprises have a possibility to regularly update the data they entered. The enterprises themselves are responsible for data update and viability.

Web-site visitors have excellent possibilities to search for information about the City cultural life, approaching events, their schedule, ticket price as well as find more about landmarks, read newsletter, see the location on a map, download some data, etc.

The web-site information is in Lithuanian, English, and German. However, CE participant may choose any other additional language from the language list and enter information in the language selected. Next to the data presented, a visitor will see a flag of the country indicating the language the information is available in. Symbol indicates the enterprise location is available on a map.

This web-site is linked to other City web-pages that perform on the basis of the same principles: “City GIS” and “SME”. All of them function in real time and are based on ArcIMS (ESRI, Inc.) software. City GIS system and all these web-sites were designed and implemented by Lithuanian-Icelandic joint-stock-company “HNIT-BALTIC GeoInfoServisas” in 2002, which is administered by Klaipeda City Municipality.
